Day 10: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill.

Day 10: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill.

Oh, I have plenty!

I have one that was so embarrassing at the moment I swore I would quit the 3rd grade and I barely tell anyone about 20 years later.  Think back and remember your first crush, mine was a blond hair blue eyed future football player son of a doctor.  I went as far as craving his name in my dresser (sorry parents) and sadly I never was the best speller, I spelled it wrong and it came out Brain instead of Brian.

Anyway, in third grade those standardized test appear for a week which are named after my home state- Iowa test of basic skills (sorry everyone.)  My crush sat a seat or two in front of me and after my first round I filled in the blanks and passed my answers forward when required. We were told to fill the basic information prior to starting the testing period and one of the questions I had never seen before so I marked an answer and never asked about it.  I after passed my form forward, it stopped with Brian and he raised his.  When he was called on he said, "Mrs. P. Holland put she is a male!"  The whole class roared in laughter and I had no idea why.  I could have died but I just had to sit there.

Now my rant, how in the hell was I suppose to know what male or female was at that age?! So formal for names, what happened to boy or girl at that age.  My little one will be getting that lesson sooner than later-prior to any stupid standardize tests!

Day 8: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.

Day 8: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.

TRAVEL

I love traveling and seeing new things.  It means more to me than a closet full of shoes, the latest iPhone, the sports network, or lots of eating out.  I have seen such a small corner of the world and I want to see more.  There is so much to see both close and far, for whatever price range you wish.  I grew up 7 miles from a Danish Windmill, actually imported from Denmark (and I am Danish!) but can only remember going there once.  I have a goal of getting out and about more often, like touring the state capitol building that I have lived 20 miles away from for the past 8 years

I have gotten so many travel memories and stories (no judgment) that I would not trade for anything:

  honeymooning European cruise
trying to navigate the train system in Africa
  two week girlfriends get away
  school trip through Japan
falling asleep on a train nearly getting lost in Ireland
  cave tubing in Belize
hitch-hiking a ride with bikers in
getting kicked off of the subway in London
stealing a pint glass from a bar in Ireland
watching the 2006 Olympics from a hotel room in the Bahamas during Hurricane Charley
  getting lost in Disneyland Tokyo
watching my Iowa Hawkeyes from the op deck of a cruise ship floating in the Caribbean

I am itching to plan something new just thinking about these memories, where to go next?

Blog Challenge Day 7: The thing(s) you're most afraid of

Day 7: The thing(s) you're most afraid of....

My dad was an auto mechanic and growing up we spent a lot of time on the side of the road.  He felt the need to fix any cheap vehicle that would come his way and sometimes they needed further adjusting in some random parking lot or on the side of the road.  Since his passing 10 years ago this upcoming summer, I have been afraid to be left alone-stranded on the side of the road without a working car.  This fear goes a little deeper to what caused my being on the road in the first place.  Since my dad was a mechanic, my three sisters and I got the car talks as well..."don't forgot to change the oil-you don't want not having any to burn up your engine" or "watch the temperature gauge, you don't want to blow the engine."  Although I better fully understand what each of those phrases mean today, I couldn't help but picture huge flames burning the engine or one of those stunt car movies while the whole car blew up for years.  Having a cell phone and my first new car (already 2 years old), decreased this fear but driving around a little baby has increased it!

Piece of cuteness for you to enjoy...

Day 6: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?

What do I do? Non-work related...this is hard.   Right now what I am doing is easier to answer: i am stalking my new iRobot rumba.  We are on its third use, I am not sure about it yet...a little mistrusting if it will do a good job or not but I am sure it will soon gain my trust (just like the dishwasher.)

Anyway...

I am a newer (nearly 10 months, that is still new right?) mom trying to figure this balancing act out.  I need to give enough at work, with the baby, the house. And the hubby?  Yeah, a true balancing act.  Trying to find the right mix is exhausting and it hurts to think to much to think about it so I will just have to leave it at that.

Blog challenge Day 5: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them?

Day 5: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them?

http://www.schuelove.com/?m=0 I enjoy this blog with Natasha. And her adorable little Ethan, our boys are two weeks apart and I feel like they are so similar! It seems like Ethan starts something and our little mr follows in suit.

I started reading blogs and blogging after I saw the cutest chalkboard baby progress reports from Little Baby Garvin. She really caught my attention when I noticed she was from Iowa and loves the Hawkeyes ( where I went to school!) if you haven't seen her site check her and little miss Harper out: http://littlebabygarvin.blogspot.com/

With this great collection of links, I think a can now blogstalk some new "friends."

Blog challenge Day 4: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it

Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it

"You can be hard, you can be judgmental, but those two things alone can ruin your life the likes of which you won't believe"

Wow

I read the above quote in a book my sophomore year in high school. I loaned that book to my English teacher (thinking back on that is a little awkward since I just retread it, hello sex scenes...) and it took me years to find it again-thanks kindle. The whole time I remembered the quote, it is just so true!

This book still remains one of my favorites, a little romance but with a great story: a Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith

Blog challenge Day 3: Things that make you uncomfortable

Day 3: Things that make you uncomfortable

What makes me uncomfortable?

Well, having a child has made my personal space bubble stretch but it is still there! I feel uncomfortable when I am "exposed" in one way or another like when my baby pulls down my shirt to pull himself up, going to the bathroom had having someone else came in (kid excluded), or when your in laws (super excited about their first grand baby) rush into the delivery room to soon as I was being stitched up spread eagle. I am not ok with being surprised in those moments, this will fade as I get more parenting under my belt but right now, I will not choose you to see me breast feed so close you can comment on my son's funny faces.

Being uncomfortable when a lady asked how old my baby was followed by "he has such a nice shaped head, did you have him vaginally?" UNCOMFORTABLE! Why would it be ok for a stranger to ask me about my vagina?!

It also makes me uncomfortable watching a birthing video in parenting class sitting next to a guy friend from high school that I hadn't seen in ten years...flash back to sex education.

There are other things but this is a big one for me!

Blog challenge Day 2: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at

Day 2: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at.

Hhhmmm

Well, if you asked my husband, he would not say that I am good at keeping up with housework, so what to say?

I believe I am good at finding something to make last minute to eat for the three of us or a crowd. I love company and if the stores would all close, our house would be the last on the block with food (unless I have an extreme couponer in the neighborhood.)

I have a couple of quick hit semi-homemade dessert recipes that take under an hour to have a fresh hot slice of yumminess to impress. For example: one egg, 1/2 cup sugar, and softened block of cream cheese will add a simple cheesecake layer to cookies, brownies, or cakes that come from a box or premade dough.

Also I have on hand a couple long lasting items like cream cheese, canned diced green chiles, canned hormel chile, apples, creasant rolls, plain cereal (corn flakes or Rice Krispies), cool whip, instant jello/pudding mixes, blocks of cheese, crackers, cherry pie filling, boneless pork ribs, ground beef, and tortillas. With theses items I can make so many snacks, dips, main dishes, and desserts to impress a group in a hour or less.

What to eat now, I got options!

Blog every day for 31 days~ Day 1: The story of your life in 250 words or less

Ok, I am going to try it, write about a given topic for the next 31 days....this is part of a challenge a couple of blogs I follow are doing which then lead me to http://storyofmylifetheblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/blog-every-day-in-may-challenge.html

Are you ready... DAY ONE

The story of your life in 250 words or less (or one paragraph... no one will be counting your words... probably)

I was city born-Omaha, NE, but raised small town high school football Harlan, Iowa. Grew up on a small acreage in the middle of some big farms with only an outside dog for a pet. I had three sisters until high school when my baby brother was born. Met a boy in high school who twelve years later is my baby daddy and hubby of five years. Left home for college, lost my father unexpectedly and never went back- lived in Council Bluffs, Harlan, Iowa City, Orlando, and Des Moines. Got a great job, my masters degree, a new car, then a baby last summer. Starting a new position in June that will hopefully let me do more of the things I love: be a mommy, craft, travel, cook, and read.

Wow that is amazing that you can pack so much into so little words! Who's next?
