12 months- Dear Grant

Dear Grant,

You are ONE! This year has gone by so fast and you have changed so much!  You came into the world as a 8lbs 5 oz dependent baby boy and here you are a 22lbs one year old toddler.  Everyone says that the first year goes by so fast and the stages do as well, and they were right!

Here are your stats from your one year doctor appointment yesterday:                22lbs, 29.5 inches, and healthy as can be!

You are walking (well sometimes running) everywhere, especially out any door to the outside.  It is summer and you LOVE to be outside just like your daddy.  We hardly see any crawling anymore unless you are having a fit on the floor or need to get through a tight space.  You have had a couple of spills since you also want to climb everything, momma caught you just in time to avoid a cement head bashing off of the front steps.

We took bottles off the schedule a couple of weeks ago and you took it like a champ.  The formula can also got empty so you are now getting real whole milk too!  We still have a little of the toddler stuff for out and about since it is easier than handling cold milk and offer formula when you are really upset.  It is a comfort of having the known and doesn’t hurt that it is warm too. You drink water, milk, and natural apple juice/water.

You LOVE yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, toddler cookies, and dry cereal.  You will try anything but stuff often comes back out to be looked at before it gets shoved back in.  You are trying nearly everything we eat and it leaves a big mess all over the floor when you are finished.  I don’t know that you dislike any foods, you just have things you would rather eat so we space things out giving you new foods first.

You have seven teeth, four on the top and three on the bottom.  We hand you a toothbrush and you brush your teeth, sometimes with the wrong end but good progress just the same.  We will have to find you a children’s dentist soon.

You will stop what you are doing and clap when other people clap and dance when you hear music.  You wave bye and will offer your forehead, cheek, or open mouth when mommy says she wants a kiss.  You will get  your toy balls, blanket, turtle, puppy, and cup when we say “get your ____.”  You play peek a boo and hide n seek.  Everything is “throwable” since we praise you to throw balls- not sure how to change this but it is so hard not to laugh when saying no.  Speaking of no – YOU HATE IT!  We try to use other words but no just causes a MELT DOWN sometimes; like on the floor banging your head on the ground screams (again hard not to laugh at Mr. Drama.)  I caught 40 seconds of one fit on camera, sorry in advance little one as mommy cannot promise this won’t be played over and over at major events like high school graduation or your wedding.

You are independent.  You would rather go it yourself and do what everybody else is doing than sit still.  I call you 100% boy!

You are talking, babbling, and screaming along-sometimes more than others.  You are starting to try and say different words by repeating what we say like when Grandma yells “Keegan!” you yell YAAH-YAAH. Super cute.  Most of the time you talk about your da-da.

You are spot on for clothes per your age group: you wear mostly 9-12 months with a couple 6 month pieces with size three diapers.

You love playing outside and  love the Sports Climber slide G&G Goeser got you for your birthday.  We had a party this past weekend and lots of people (45 or so) came to see you!  You got gifts that you refused to help open once the first toy came out and clapped when everyone sang Happy Birthday.  You made a mess of the smash cake and nearly stained the tub!  On Wednesday, your actually birthday we went to Adventureland with Nana Dee and you ran around in the water park after I  gave you a chocolate iced doughnut for breakfast.

We put away all of the baby stuff: your bumbo, playmats, bottles, small clothes, burp rags, rattles, and baby items to make room for your big boy stuff.  Welcome to the world of being a toddle little one!  Remember that we love you so much and can’t imagine having our lives without the joy you give us.  Your Aunt Lauren wrote “Grant is the best thing that happened to our family this year” and everyone that knows you knows this is so true!  Can’t wait for the discoveries you will have in year number two!

Love,

                Mommy

Here is your famous crabby man face which is always followed by a smile!
